Pawlak Named NEWMAC Women’s Swimmer of the Week

Westwood, MA --- WPI freshman Katherine Pawlak (Westford, MA) has been selected as the NEWMAC Women's Swimmer of the Week.

Pawlak was dominant with four individual victories and was part of three relay triumphs at the third annual Tech Sprints. The freshman touched the wall first in the 25-yard freestyle (11.30), 25-yard butterfly (12.40), 50-yard freestyle (24.81) and 100-yard freestyle (46.29). Her 24.74 in the 50 free trials ranked third in the NEWMAC last week. The 100-yard medley relay (46.29) was the top time in the conference last week while the 200-yard medley relay (1:52.37) ranked second. The 100-yard freestyle squad, meanwhile, collaborated for a winning 46.29.

It was the second weekly accolade for a newcomer on the women's team this season as Molly Sykes (Falmouth, MA) was recognized in early November. MIT's 200-yard medley quartet and sophomore Deborah Wen (Honolulu, Hawaii) were the relay and diver of the week, respectively.

WPI hosts the 2019 NEWMAC Swimming & Diving Championships later this month. The four-day extravaganza begins on Thursday the 21st at 4pm.
