Westwood, MA --- WPI's Paul Bennett has been named as the NEWMAC Men's Co-Swimming Coach of the Year. It is the fourth time he was recognized as the men's coach of the year and sixth overall. He shares this year's accolade with Coast Guard's John Westkott. Additionally, Markus Zimmermann (Sammamish, WA) and Anna Matsco (Windham, NH) were this year's NEWMAC All-Sportsmanship Team selections.
Bennett, now in his 15th year at WPI, led the Engineers to four All-Conference honors and coached the Swimmer of the Year in Jack Bauer while Westkott coached the Bears to a second place finish and 13 All-Conference awards.
All four performances yielded invitations to the NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships March 20-23 in Greensboro, NC. Bauer is the top seed in the 100-yard backstroke and second in the 200-yard backstroke, and Clayton Besch is the ninth seed in the 100-yard butterfly. The 400-yard medley relay consisting of Bauer, Dave Chen, Jackson Perry and Craig Barrett is ranked 10th as the 200 version featuring Bauer, Chen, Besch and Jean Philippe Miralda is 13th. More

The Crimson and Gray also collected their seventh consecutive city championship.
In addition to passing WPI Hall of Fame coach Whit Griffith on the all-time men's win list with 112 and 113 in a road dual with Franklin & Marshall and Susquehanna, Bennett reached 200 career men's and women's victories at home versus Clark.
