Men’s Swimming & Diving’s 200 Medley Relay Earns All-America Honorable Mention Accolades

Greensboro, NC --- The WPI men's swimming & diving 200-yard medley relay earned All-America honorable mention status Wednesday night at the 2019 NCAA Division III Championships, hosted by the ODAC and Greensboro Aquatic Center. The Engineers end the first day tied with Calvin for 14th place with 12 points.

The quartet of senior Jack Bauer (Cumberland, RI), junior Dave Chen (Niantic, CT), senior Jackson Perry (Cumberland, RI) and senior Jean Philippe Miralda (Tegucigalpa, Honduras) finished 11th overall with a third-place 1:30.62 in the consolation final. Bauer, who earned All-America honors two years ago in the same event, handed in a school-record 22.37 in the 50-yard backstroke leg while the Engineers, who had an edge over Swarthmore after the first and third legs tied the Garnet with an 11th-place 1:30.67 in the morning swim. The team from Denison won the title with a 1:27.83.

Sophomore Clayton Besch (West Sand Lake, NY) also took part in the prelims and clocked a 21.30 in the 50-yard freestyle.

Thursday will feature the 200-yard freestyle relay, 100-yard butterfly (Besch, Perry and Bauer), and the 400-yard medley relay. The prelims get underway at 10am and finals begin at 6pm.
