Fast Relay Start Propels Women's Swimming and Diving to Road Win Over Stevens

Hoboken, NJ --- The Engineers set the tone for their dual meet today against Stevens when WPI opened the 200 medley relay with a first, second and third place finish. Jenn Brownell (Spring, TX), Molly Silsby (Augusta, ME), Carol Wang (Framingham, MA) and Katherine Pawlak (Westford, MA) teamed up for the victory in a time of 1:52.33. A team composed of Rayna Harter (Plainfield, IL), Olivia Petropulos (Hollis, NH), Sarah MacDonald (Yorktown Heights, NY) and Lexi Clark (Easton, MD) swam into second in 1:52.67 while Sydney Seo (North Andover, MA), Emma Edwardson (Cary, NC), Sofie de Oliveira (Portland, ME) and Cameron Cronin (Cumberland, RI) took third in 1:58.67. 

In total, the Engineers tallied 22 top-three finishes with exhibitioning the final four events of the meet to defeat the host Ducks 132-119. 

Jillian Clemente (Killingworth, CT) started off the individual events with a victory in the 1000 free in a time of 11:01.37, for a new personal best. Cailin Gonyea (Southbridge, MA) came in third in the event in 11:15.97. In the 200 free, Molly Sykes (Falmouth, MA) took first in 1:59.66 while Audrey Berner (San Jose, CA) came in third with a time of 2:01.33. 

Brownell earned her one individual victory of the meet in the 100 backstroke when she swam the event in 1:01.46 and was followed in by her teammate Wang in second in 1:02.74. Petropulos earned first in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:10.76 while Silsby came in second in 1:11.17. 

The Engineers swept the top-three spots in the 200 butterfly with Clemente taking first in 2:10.71 followed by Harter in second (2:15.18) and Anna Matsco (Windham, NH) in third (2:22.59). Pawlak swam to first-place in the 50 free in a time of 24.82 while Clark took third-place with a time of 25.70. 

In the 100 free, MacDonald earned second in 56.57 to set a new personal best while Kimberly Hazeltine (Stratham, NH) took third in 57.16. Silsby sealed another top-three finish in the 200 breaststroke coming in second in 2:34.70 while Petropulos took third in 2:35.48. The Engineers ended the day with a victory in the 200 backstroke by Olivia Hanson (Anchorage, AK) in a time of 2:14.94 while Seo claimed second in 2:19.24. 

The Engineers (8-8) are back in the pool on Tuesday, January 21, at Clark for a meet at 6:30pm.
