Springfield, MA --- Chris Farren (Plaistow, NH), Jeff Baker (Wallingford, CT) and Wesley DeChristofaro (Woonsocket, RI) each qualified in a pair of events for the Division III New England Indoor Track and Field Championships as the Engineers placed fourth as a team at the Springfield Invitational on Saturday. Springfield won the meet with Westfield State and Rhode Island College rounding out the top three.
Jason Reynolds (Ausable Valley, NY) won the weight throw with a 50-5.25 and was followed by Farren (2nd - 49-1.75) and Baker (3rd - 48-8) as all three have qualified for New Englands. Reynolds also qualifies for the ECAC Championships. In the shot put, Farren took third (44-11.75) and Baker came in fourth (44-4) to become eligible in their second event.
DeChristofaro made his qualifying marks as he finished second in the triple jump (43-9) and the long jump (21-20) in his first collegiate competition. Fellow freshman Edmund Eduah (Accra, Ghana) finished fifth (20-4.5) in the long jump and also qualifies for the New Englands.
Rookie Tim Forrest (Madison, CT) turned in a New Englands qualifying time of 8.31 as he placed fourth in the 55-meter hurdles, as junior Kyle Morette's (Leominster, MA) first place (14-11) effort in the pole vault earns him a spot in the Open New Englands.
Other top finishers include Stephen Kocienski (Schaghticoke, NY) with a fourth place (52.84) in the 400-meter dash, Dominic Gonzalez (Lowell, MA) in the 1000-meter run (5th - 2:44.69), Jeremy Francisco (Dartmouth, MA) who finished fifth (4:41.93) in the mile run, Lane Thornton (Richmond, VT) in the 3000-meter run (3rd - 9:09.29), and the 4x800 relay team of Gonzalez, Brad Bailey (Sandwich, MA), Keegan Westwater (North Andover, MA) and Thornton who posted a fourth place finish with a time of 8:52.05.
The Men's Indoor Track and Field team will return to action on January 15, 2011 when they venture to Bowdoin for a tri-meet with Middlebury.
