Middletown, CT --- Weight throwers Jeff Baker (Wallingford, CT) and Chris Farren (Plaistow, NH) each qualified for a championship meet as WPI men's indoor track and field participated in the non-scoring Wesleyan Invitational on Saturday. The Engineers competed against 17 other colleges and universities.
Baker placed fifth in the weight throw as he heaved it 50-0.75 to qualify for the ECAC Championships, while Farren was seventh with a 48-4.75 to meet the requirements for the New England Division III Championships.
Wesley DeChristofaro (Woonsocket, RI) also met the requirements for the New England Division III Championships in the triple jump as he was the runner up with a 43-7.75. The freshman also matched his performance in the Bowdoin meet with a 6-1.25 to win the high jump.
Top 10 performances on the day include Stephen Kocienski (Schaghticoke, NY) in the 600-meter run (3rd - 1:26.12), Farren in the shot put (4th - 42-9.50), Matt Whitman (Holden, MA) in the 55-meter dash (6th - 6.86), Scott Burger (South Huntington, NY) in the 3,000 meter run (7th - 16:14.84) and Billy Hawkins (Dartmouth, MA) in the 800-meter run (10th - 2:07.72).
Leading the Engineers in other events were Scott Woodnorth (Milwaukee, WI) in the 400-meter dash (12th - 53.93), Edmund Eduah (Accra, Ghana) in the long jump (13th - 19-1.50), Ryan Shooshan (Paxton, MA) in the 200-meter dash (16th - 23.98), Jon Gay (Charlton, MA) in the 1,000-meter run (16th - 2:53.91), Todd Alexander (Northboro, MA) in the 3,000-meter run (16th - 9:59.34) and Mitch Giroux (Dighton, MA) in the mile run (22nd - 4:46.04).
Men's Indoor Track and Field is back in action on Saturday, January 29th when the team ventures to Boston University for a 10am meet.
