Boston, MA --- Four runners made championship qualifying times as WPI men's track and field competed on Saturday at the BU Terrier Invitational.
Three Engineers hit their marks in the 400-meter dash. Kyle Morette (Leominster, MA) raced to a 49.69 finish and Stephen Kocienski (Schaghticoke, NY) posted a 50.53 to be eligible for the Open New England championships, while Ryan Shooshan's (Paxton, MA) 51.27 is a New England Division III qualifying mark. Mike Thyden (Sutton, MA) registered a 54.43.
Lane Thornton (Richmond, VT) earned a spot in the ECAC Championships as he ran a 4:19.70 mile.
Kocienski, Shooshan, Scott Woodnorth (Milwaukee, WI) and Morette combined for a 3:26.43 in the 4x400 meter relay, an improvement on their Division III New England qualifying time and .18 of a second off the ECAC qualifying time.
In the 200-meter dash Ditton Kawalya (Kanbala, Uganda) finished with a 23.41, while Matt Whitman (Holden, MA) recorded a 23.85. Josh Matte (Litchfield, NH) and Greg McConnell (Georgia, VT) completed the 800-meter run with times of 2:02.40 and 2:02.49, respectively.
A quartet of runners participated in the 1,000-meter run as Dominic Gonzalez (Lowell, MA) finished with a 2:39.26, Mitch Giroux (Dighton, MA) ran a 2:39.74, Billy Hawkins (Dartmouth, MA) posted a 2:41.01 and Daniel Riches (Paxton, MA) put up a 2:41.83.
The 5,000-meter run saw Scott Burger (South Huntington, NY) race to a time of 16:12.04.
Men's Indoor Track and Field returns to action Saturday when they venture to the Tartan Invitational hosted by Smith.
