Women's Indoor Track and Field's Baker Provisionally Qualifies for NCAA Championships

Medford, MA --- Krista Baker (Medway, MA) provisionally qualified for the NCAA championships as WPI women's indoor track and field competed in the non-scoring Tufts Invitational on Saturday. Baker is the second provisional qualifier in as many days for the Engineers.

Baker won the weight throw by launching it 51-9 and reset her own school record in the NCAA qualifying effort. Her performance is currently 26th overall in Division III. Others participating in the weight throw were Kimi Joback (Bedford, NH) (10th – 34-5.50), Deanna Flaherty (Millbury, MA) (11th - 34-2.75), and Jessica Dzwonkoski (Chicopee, MA) (17th – 29-9.25).

Adrianna Davis (Chelmsford, MA) won the 60-meter hurdles with a 9.44 and was second in the high jump (1.53m). The sophomore also placed eighth in the long jump (15-4.75). Joining Davis in the long jump were Sarah Cook (New Paltz, NY) and Jen Cicchetti (Mahopac, NY) in 14th (14-5.25) and 15th (13-6.25).

In the 60-meter dash, Joan Keyes (Plymouth, MA) crossed the finish line fifth with a time of 8.48 and Olivia Shepherd (Kingston, MA) was 12th (8.80).

Jill Perreira (Lancaster, MA) raced to a 1:06.33 for sixth spot in the 400-meter dash.  Kayla Schutte (Oakland, ME) came in 14th as she posted a 1:14.97.

Caitlin Rush (Nashua, NH) and Lauren Waring (Wilmington, MA) completed the 600-meter run in eighth (1:50.14) and 15th (1:57.39), while Caitlin Donovan(East Longmeadow, MA) recorded a 2:56.30 for eighth in the 800-meter run.

Amy Babeu (Groveland, MA) ran the mile in 5:47.26 to finish fifth in the event.

The pole vault saw Emily Hartzell (Brunswick, ME) clear 9-6.25 for sixth place. Jacqui Foti (Hopkinton, NH) was 12th (8-5.50) as Julia Baum (Lenox, MA) was 16th (7-11.50) and Shepherd was 18th (7-5.75).

Cook recorded a 33-4.50 to finish third in the triple jump, while Hartzell registered 30-1 for seventh and Cicchetti's 29-6.50 was eighth.

Baker led the Engineers with a third place in the shot put (40-6.25). Flaherty rounded out the top five with a 10.46m effort. Katye Milligan (Skowhegan, ME) and Dzwonkoski posted 28-4.50 and 27-6.75 for 12th and 13th.

The women's indoor track and field team ventures to Cambridge for the New England Division III Championships on Friday and Saturday at MIT.
