Springfield, MA --- Two individuals and a relay team achieved All-New England status as men's indoor track and field competed in the New England Division III Championships hosted by Springfield College on Saturday. MIT won the meet with 114 points as WPI tied for 21st with 6 points.
The 4x400-meter relay team of sophomore Stephen Kocienski (Schaghticoke, NY), classmate Ryan Shoshan (Paxton, MA), senior Josh Matte (Litchfield, NH) and junior Kyle Morette (Leominster, MA) earned All-New England honors with their seventh place time of 3:28.83.
Kocienski also ran a 51.19 (seventh) for All-New England accolades in the 400-meter dash. Morette finished ninth (51.44) while Shooshan placed 18th (52.37).
Wesley DeChristofaro (Woonsocket, RI) earned his first All-New England nod with a seventh place showing as he cleared 6-2 in the high jump. The freshman tied for 10th in the long jump (20-10.50) and was 10th in the triple jump (43-3.25). Classmate Edmund Eduah (Accra, Ghana) came home 13th with a 41-5.
Junior Matt Whitman (Holden, MA) placed ninth in the 55-meter dash with a 6.67 and 18th in the 200-meter dash (24.15).
The 55-meter hurdles saw freshman Tim Forrest (Madison, CT) grab 15th spot with an 8.34 time as senior Kyle Diaz (Sturbridge, MA) was 18th (8.45).
Seniors, Jeff Baker (Wallingford, CT) launched the weight throw 50-4.5 for 11th, while Lane Thornton (Richmond, VT) took 16th (4:28.98) in the mile. Baker finished 21st (41.8.75) in the shot put and junior Chris Farren (Plaistow, NH) followed in 22nd (41-2.25).
The Men's Indoor Track and Field team heads back to Boston University for the All-New England Championships on Friday and Saturday.
