Columbus, OH --- WPI sophomore Noelle Richard (Oxford, MA) finished the 400-meter preliminary heats with a 57.98 for 13th place at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships on Friday night. The event was hosted by Capital University in Columbus, Ohio.
Running in the fourth and final heat, Richard placed third in an ultra-tight race that saw runners two, three and four post identical times of 57.98. Elsa Millett of Bowdoin won the heat with a time of 57.83.
"Noelle ran a strong race today but finished a few tenths of a second short of making it to the final," said head coach Brian Chabot. "I'm so proud of the historic season she had. At the start of the year if Noelle and I were told she would be the Division III New England Champion, ECAC Champion and would have competed at the NCAA Championships we both would have taken that in a heartbeat. I feel this is just the start and the best is yet to come from Noelle."
Richard completes the indoor season as the Division III New England and ECAC Champion in the 400.
Women's Outdoor Track and Field opens on March 26th in the Worcester City Meet at Worcester State.
