Women’s Track and Field Third at Annual Engineers Cup

Cambridge, MA --- Julie Eagle (Rock Island, IL) won the high jump and Women's Track and Field finished third at the Engineers Cup on Saturday. MIT captured the cup with 217 points, while Rensselaer earned 124.5 points and WPI scored 61.5 points.

Eagle cleared 5-4.25 to win the high jump and qualify for the Division III New England Championship meet. Merrielle Ondreicka (Sutton, MA) finished fifth as she registered a height of 4-9 in the event.

Kimi Joback (Bedford, NH) led the throwers with a 104-9 with top billing in the javelin. Olivia Shepherd (Kingston, MA) posted an 88.7 for fourth place. Funmi Adebayo (Medfield, MA) was the runner up in the hammer throw with a flight of 135-5, while Katye Milligan (Skowhegan, ME) grabbed fifth spot (126-7). Milligan also was sixth in the discus (98-9). Deanna Flaherty (Millbury, MA) scored valuable points in the shot put with a toss of 31.5.

In the 100-meter dash, Kyla Wesley (Burlington, MA), Noelle Richard (Oxford, MA) Amira Yusif (Leominster, MA) and Joan Keyes (Plymouth, MA) took third through sixth with times of 12.86, 12.98, 13.46, and 13.47. The quartet also finished second in the 4x100 relay in a time of 51.15.

Completing the 4x400-meter relay in third place (4:26.99) was the foursome of Caroline Allen (Norton, MA), Lauren Waring (Wilmington, MA), Caitlin Rush (Nashua, NH) and Stacey Rauen (San Gabriel, CA).

Three Boynton Hillers scored points in the 200-meter dash as Richard placed fourth (26.44), Yusif finished fifth (27.07) and Allen came in sixth. Allen also ran fourth in the 400-meter dash in a time of 1:03.16.

Emily Pearce (Avon, CT) sprung to an 11-1.75 for fourth in the pole vault and a fifth-place distance of 15-7.75 in the long jump for the Crimson and Gray. Rauen finished sixth in the 800-meter run (2:35.31).

Also leading the Engineers were Nikole Stone (Harrisville, NH) in the triple jump (8th – 31-3.25), Jill Perreira (Lancaster, MA) in the 400-meter hurdles (8th – 1:18.52), Amy Babeu (Groveland, MA) in the 1,500-meter run (8th – 5:18.64)

Next Saturday the team travels to the UMass Amherst Invitational. Confirmed participants include a number of Division I and III schools.
