Amherst, MA --- Julie Eagle (Rock Island, IL) and Noelle Richard (Oxford, MA) led the way as WPI Women's Track and Field finished sixth out of 10 teams competing at the UMass Amherst Invitational on Saturday. Albany won the meet as they scored 214.50 points and Williams was the highest placing Division III team with 117 points. WPI scored 47 points to finish in front of of Trinity, Smith, Marist and Quinnipiac.
Eagle soared over 5-5 in the high jump to finish second and provisionally qualify for the NCAA championships in addition to the Division III New England, All-New England and ECAC Division III Championship meets.
Richard won the 400-meter dash in a time of 57.69, .39 shy of the NCAA outdoor championship provisional standard. The sophomore also finished fifth in the 200-meter dash in 26.28.
Kimi Joback (Bedford, NH) and Funmi Adebayo (Medfield, MA) each posted fourth place efforts. Joback tossed the javelin 119-7, while Adebayo's hammer throw flew 136-8. Adebayo was also ninth in the discus throw (89-8).
The 4x100-meter relay team checked in fourth (50.58), as the 4x400-relay quartet came home 12th (4:25.96).
A pair of WPI runners finished fifth and sixth in the 10,000-meter run as Hannah McCallum (Lafayette, CO) and Jenn Mann (Chelmsford, MA) posted times of 42:40.78 and 42:41.17.
Jacqui Foti (Hopkinton, NH) cleared 8-8.25 for sixth in the pole vault and Nikole Stone (Harrisville, NH) went 32-6.25 for ninth in the triple jump. Deanna Flaherty (Millbury, MA) narrowly missed a top ten spot in the shot put with a heave of 30-11.25.
Pacing the Crimson and Gray in the 100-meter dash was Kyla Wesley (Burlington, MA) who raced to an 11th place 13.07, while Jill Perriera (Lancaster, MA) had a team-best 13th in the 400-meter hurdles (1:16.84).
Emily Pearce (Avon, CT) finished 15th in the long jump with a distance of 15-4.25, while Stacey Rauen (San Gabriel, CA) crossed the finish line 28th (5:05.22) in the 1,500-meter run and 36th (2:31.59) in the 800-meter run.
Women's Outdoor Track and Field heads to Springfield on Saturday for a tri-meet with Coast Guard.
