Springfield, MA --- Kyla Wesley (Burlington, MA) captured a pair of top fives as WPI Women's Track and Field placed eighth at the Springfield Invitational on a rainy Saturday. The Engineers picked up 30 points on the day. MIT (187.5) won the meet as Springfield (174) and Westfield State (107.5) claimed second and third.
Wesley crossed the finish line third in the 200-meter dash (27.49) and raced to a 13.29 for fifth in the 100-meter dash. Caroline Allen (Norton, MA) was fourth in the 200 (27.98) and Joan Keyes (Plymouth, MA) posted a 13.60 for seventh in the 100. Allen also turned in a 1:02.95 for eighth in the 400-meter dash.
In the hammer throw Kimi Joback (Bedford, NH) and Katye Milligan (Skowhegan, ME) made tosses of 122-2 and 121-11 for fifth and sixth place.
Emily Hartzell (Brunswick, ME) recorded a 31-1 for sixth in the triple jump and cleared 9.25 for seventh in the pole vault.
A quartet of Engineers had ninth place performances as Olivia Shepherd (Kingston, MA) launched the javelin 81-8, Cindy Chelius (Northfield, NJ) tossed the discus 91-6, Deanna Flaherty (Millbury, MA) heaved the shot put 31-4.75 and Jill Perreira (Lancaster, MA) ran the 400-meter hurdles in 1:16.26.
Rounding out the top performers were Merrielle Ondreicka (Sutton, MA) who registered a 4-9 for 12th in the high jump and Kayla Schutte (Oakland, ME) who finished 21st (2:45.98) in the 800-meter run.
WPI ventures to Coast Guard for the NEWMAC Championships on Saturday.
