Women's Track and Field Ties for Fourth at NEWMAC Championships

New London, CT --- WPI sophomore Julie Eagle (Rock Island, IL) captured the high jump championship and two others and a relay team had a runner up finish as Women's Track and Field tied for fourth in the nine-team NEWMAC Championship on Saturday on the campus of Coast Guard. The Engineers racked up 77 points to tie with Smith as MIT won the meet with 216.50 points and Springfield trailed in second place with 154.

Eagle matched her NCAA provisional mark from the UMass-Amherst invitational en route to claiming the championship in the high jump as she cleared 5-5.

The 4x400 team of Caroline Allen (Norton, MA), Amira Yusif (Leominster, MA), Jill Perriera (Lancaster, MA) and Noelle Richard (Oxford, MA) earned All-Conference second team honors with a runner up finish in a time of 4:07.83.

Also taking home second team accolades were Kyla Wesley (Burlington, MA) in the 100-meter dash (12.66) and Richard in the 400-meter dash (58.37). In the 200-meter dash Richard crossed the finish line fifth (26.12) and was followed by Wesley in seventh (26.56).

Hannah McCallum (Lafayette, CO) turned in a 42:24.38 for third in 10,000-meter run, while Funmi Adebayo (Medfield, MA) launched the hammer 135-4 to take third as Katye Milligan (Skowhegan, ME) followed in fourth (133-7).

Richard, Joan Keyes (Plymouth, MA), Yusif and Wesley combined to clock a 50.19 in the 4x100-meter relay.

Rounding out top eight performers were Amy Babeu (Groveland, MA) who ran a 19:38.93 to grab fourth in the 5,000-meter run, Kimi Joback (Bedford, NH) who tossed the javelin 106-11 for fourth and Emily Pearce (Avon, CT) who was sixth in the long jump (16-3) and seventh in the pole vault (10-0).

Other Engineer highlights include Stacey Rauen (San Gabriel, CA) in the 800-meter run (2:31.18) and 1,500-meter run (5:01.46), Deanna Flaherty (Millbury, MA) in the shot put (32-9.50), Perreira in the 400-meter hurdles (1:13.40), Nikole Stone (Harrisville, NH) in the triple jump (31-5.75) and Milligan in the discus (89-11).

Women's Track and Field will send several student-athletes to MIT for the New England Division III Championship meet on Friday and Saturday.
