New Haven, CT --- Senior Jeff Baker (Wallingford, CT) finished fifth in the javelin and sophomore Noelle Richard (Oxford, MA) reached a NCAA provisional qualifying time in a heat of the 400 meters to highlight WPI's performance Friday at the New England All-Divisions Track and Field Championships held at Southern Connecticut.
Baker tossed the javelin 193-0 to earn All-New England All-Divisions honors for the second time in his standout career. The senior came back later in the day and finished 11th in the hammer throw with a toss of 175-5.
Richard turned in a time of 56.90 to set a new school record and post the 21st best time in the country this spring. She'll try and improve her ranking Saturday as she'll be seeded fourth in the finals. Amira Yusif (Leominster, MA) finished 24th in the trials with a personal-best time of 1:01.61.
Yusif also competed in the 200 meters, placing 22nd with a time of 27.13, while teammate Kyla Wesley (Burlington, MA) was 23rd at 27.21. Wesley also participated in the 100 meters, crossing the line in a time of 13.09 to finish 25th.
On the men's side, Kyle Morette (Leominster, MA) and Stephen Kocienski (Schaghticoke, NY) both competed in a pair of events for the Crimson and Gray. Morette was 14th in the pole vault (13-9.25) and 19th in the 200 meters (23.10) while Kocienski ran a personal best 49.61 in the 400 meters to finish 15th and crossed the finish line 21st in the 200 meters (23.21). Freshman Tim Forrest (Madison, CT) had a strong showing in the 110 hurdles for WPI, placing 16th in a time of 15.58.
In addition to Richard competing in the finals of the 400 meters, three other Engineers will be in action on Saturday including Julie Eagle (Rock Island, IL) in the high jump, Emily Pearce (Avon, CT) in the pole vault and Wesley DeChristofaro (Woonsocket, RI) in the triple jump.
