Delaware, OH --- WPI's Noelle Richard (Oxford, MA) finished the 400-meter 21st in the preliminary heats with a 58.27 at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Friday night. The event was hosted by Ohio Wesleyan.
Richard ran in the first heat and was next to the national leader Nevada Morrison from Wartburg, who would record a 55.12 for the best time on the day. Five of the six runners in the heat made the finals. The top eight overall, who are all assured of All-America status, will race again tomorrow for the national championship.
"It was a special season coaching Noelle," noted head coach Brian Chabot. "The future looks bright for her and the team. To have Noelle in both NCAA championships this year is a great accomplishment for her and the program."
The event marks the completion of Richard's stellar sophomore indoor and outdoor season, including championships at the Division III New England Indoor meet and ECAC Indoor meet in the 400. Richard also finished 13th at the NCAA Indoor Championships this season.
Tomorrow, Julie Eagle (Rock Island, IL) represents WPI in the high jump beginning at noon.
