Delaware, OH --- WPI sophomore Julie Eagle (Rock Island, IL) tied for 14th place at the 2011 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday. The national meet was hosted by Ohio Wesleyan.
Eagle recorded a 5-3.75 in the high jump to tie with two others for 14th spot out of 22 entrants. Elizabeth Evans from Rose-Hulman captured the championship as she cleared 5-8.
"It was a special season coaching Julie and Noelle," said head coach Brian Chabot. "The future looks bright for these sophomores and the team. It's great that Julie was able to overcome obstacles that may have prevented her from competing at all to set the WPI record this season and make the championship field."
In his third year at the helm Chabot, and his staff, helped send Eagle and Noelle Richard (Oxford, MA) to the NCAA Championships, including appearances in the 400-meter dash by Richard in both the indoor and outdoor championships. Also earning provisional marks this season were Jeff Baker (Wallingford, CT) in the outdoor javelin and outdoor hammer throw and Krista Baker (Medway, MA) in the indoor weight throw.
