Women’s Track and Field Opens Season With Strong Showing at Springfield

Springfield, MA --- WPI's women's indoor track and field team kicked off their season with a third place finish at the Springfield Invitational on Saturday, highlighted by the first place finish of the 4x400 relay team. Host Springfield won the event, with Westfield State coming in second. Eastern Connecticut State and Rhode Island College came in fourth and fifth, respectively.

Noelle Richard (Oxford, MA) came in second in the 200 meter dash (26.62) and third in the 60 meter dash (8.27). Richard's time in the 60 qualified her for the NCAA Division III New England Indoor Track and Field Championships. Amira Yusif (Leominster, MA) had a third place finish in the 400 meter dash (1:04.04) and a fifth place finish in the 60 (8.43).

Emily Dudley (Woburn, MA) came in second in the 1000 meter run (3:23.72). Amy Babeu (Groveland, MA) was second in the 3000 meter run (11:17.75). Sarah Cook (New Paltz, NY) was fourth in the triple jump with a distance of 32-3.75.

Richard teamed up with Kristine Zeeb (Nashua, NH), Lauren Waring (Wilmington, MA) and Caroline Allen (Norton, MA) to win the 4x400 relay with a time of 4:17.24.

The Women's Indoor Track and Field team will return to action on January 14, 2012 when participate in the Bowdoin Invitational.
