Women’s Track and Field Kicks off 2012 at Bowdoin 5-Way Invitational

Brunswick, ME --- The WPI Women's Indoor Track and Field team placed third at the 2012 Bowdoin Invitational on Saturday. 

Noelle Richard (Oxford, MA) was the top performer for the Crimson and Gray, winning the 200 meter dash (26.47) and the 400 meter dash (59.38). Julie Eagle (Rock Island, IL) won the high jump event, putting up a 5-4.25 mark. Amy Babeu (Groveland, MA) had a second place finish in the 3000 meters with a time of 11:16.46. 

The relay teams were key for the Engineers, with WPI placing second in the 4x200, 4x400 and 4x800 events. The 4x200 had a time of 1:56.25, led by Amira Yusif (Leominster, MA), Joan Keyes (Plymouth, MA), Olivia Shepherd (Kingston, MA) and Maya Rhinehart (Springfield, MA). The 4x400 finished with a time of 4:25.96, an effort made possible by Caroline Allen (Norton, MA), Jill Perreira (Lancaster, MA), Lauren Waring (Wilmington, MA) and Adrianna Davis (Chelmsford, MA). The 4x800, run by Aubrie Vannasse (Stow, MA), Caitlin Rush (Nashua, NH), Emily Dudley (Woburn, MA) and Maria Grandoni (Framingham, MA) finished with a time of 10:59.83. 

Rhinehart also came in third in the 60 meter dash with a 8.50 and fifth in the 200 Meter Dash with a 28.23. Yusif came in fourth in both the 60 meter dash (8.56) and the 400 meter dash (1:04.12).  Freshman Laura Pumphrey (East Hampton, CT) qualifed for the New England Division III Championships in the 60 meter hurdles (6th - 10.00) and place fourth in the high jump (4-9.75) 

Emily Pearce (Avon, CT) placed third in the pole vault with a height of 10-6, and Kimi Joback (Bedford, NH) was third in the weight throw with a heave of 41.5-75. 

Up next for the Engineers, the team participates in the Wesleyan Invitational on Saturday, January 21st.
