Boston, MA --- Noelle Richard (Oxford, MA) ran a season-best time in both the 200 and 400 meter events and Julie Eagle (Rock Island, IL) placed third in the high jump to highlight WPI Women's Track and Field's performance Friday at the Terrier Classic host by Boston University. The non-scoring meet featured athletes from Division I, II and III as well as several top-level unattached performers.
Richard moved up to seventh place in the most recent NCAA Division III 400 meter rankings with her time of 57.87. The junior came back later in the day and bettered her ECAC qualifying time in the 200 with a personal indoor-best of 26.03. Eagle cleared 1.65 meters (5-5) in the high jump, bettering her height by 0.02 meters, moving to eighth on the current NCAA list.
In addition to Richard, a trio of athletes reached the New England Division III qualifying standard in the 400 meters. Maya Rhinehart (East Longmeadow, MA) clocked a 1:01.64 while Amira Yusif (Leominster, MA) and Caroline Allen (Norton, MA) turned times of 1:02.18 and 1:02.73 respectively. Julia Lamontagne (South Hadley, MA) rounded out the strong Crimson and Gray showing in the event with a 1:04.84. The quartet of Yusif, Allen, Rhinehart and Noelle came back later in the meet and notched a time of 4:05.73 in the 4x400 relay, comfortably reaching the ECAC standard and breaking into the top 20 of times nationwide.
Freshman Maria Grandoni (Framingham, MA) continued to impresse with an ECAC-qualifying time of 3:07.04 in the 1000 meters while teammate Caitlin Rush (Nashua, NH) finished in 3:18.35. The Engineers also saw a pair of strong times in the 60 meter hurdles. Junior Adrianna Davis (Chelmsford, MA) and freshman Laura Pumphrey (East Hampton, CT) crossed the line in 9.98 and 10.12 respectively.
Senior Emily Pearce (Avon, CT) cleared 10-6 in the pole vault for the third straight week en route to registering an 11th place finish.
Men's Track and Field takes center stage Saturday at BU as the Terrier Classic concludes. The women are back in action next weekend at the Tufts Stampede.
