Thyden Sets Heptathlon Record as Men's Track and Field Places Third at Tufts Stampede

Medford, MA --- Mike Thyden (Sutton, MA) established a new score record in the heptathlon to lead the WPI men's track and field team to a third-place finish at the Tufts Stampede on Friday and Saturday. 

Thyden's 4198 points placed him third among competitors in the event. 

Joey Collins (Standish, ME) finished second in the 600 meter run with a time of 1:23.46. 

Tristan Richardson (Attleboro Falls, MA) was second in the high jump event, with a 6-5 mark. 

The 4x800 meter relay team, with Greg McConnell (Georgia, VT), Thomas Kostelak (Bernardsville, NJ), Dominic Gonzalez (Lowell, MA) and Andrew Zayac (Plymouth, MA) came in second place with a time of 8:06.53.  

Kyle Morette (Leominster, MA) was third in the pole vault with a 13-11.25 mark. He was also tenth in the 200 meter dash, clocking a 23.62. 

Stephen Kocienski (Schaghticoke, NY) had a third place finish in the 600 meter run, clocking a 1:23.85. 

Wesley DeChristofaro (Woonsocket, RI) came in third in the triple jump event with a 42-8.75 mark. He was eighth in the long jump with a 20-3. 

Nicholas Aleles (Tappan, NY), Eric Eoff (Rexford, NY), Tim Forrest (Madison, CT) and Kirk Murphy (Swansea, MA) placed seventh in the 4x400 meter relay event, clocking in with a time of 3:39.51.

Forrest clocked an 8.62 in the 60 meter hurdles, placing him in third place. Murphy was also 11th in the 600 meter run with a 1:28.55. 

Ditton Kawalya (Bugolobi, Uganda) was 12th in the 200 meter dash with a 23.73 finish. 

Ryan Shooshan (Paxton, MA) finished the 400 meter dash with a time of 53.33, good for fifth place. 

Ryan Moran (Pembroke, MA) clocked a 4:35.20 in the mile run, good for seventh place. 

Joao Correia (Woburn, MA) had a mark of 39-5.25 in the triple jump, good for ninth place. 

Ben Altshuler (Ellenville, NY) had a 41-10.75 in the triple jump, seventh best on the day. He also had a 19-04.25 in the long jump, placing him in 10th place. 

Nate Martel (Standish, ME) was tenth in the shot put with a 42-6. His 46-0.75 in the weight throw was also tenth. 

James Everett (Natick, MA) had an 11th place finish in the high jump with a 5-9.25. 

Charles Plummer (Westboro, MA) and Alexander Bennett (El Paso, TX) finished back-to-back in the pole vault in 11th and 12th place, respectively. Both posted marks of 11-7.75. 

Scott Burger (Huntington Station, NY) was 12th in the mile run, clocking in at 4:41.42. 

The Engineers will continue their season as they travel to Boston University next weekend to participate in the Valentine Invitational.
