Grinnell, IA --- WPI junior Noelle Richard (Oxford, MA) finished 13th in the 400-meter dash preliminary heats on Friday night in the 2012 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships at Grinnell College.
Richard turned in a 57.83 as she shaved off .15 from her time in last year's national competition. The junior bested senior Portia Jones (Queens, NY) and senior Jamie Simmons (Carlsbad, CA) from MIT while Wheaton sophomore Ashante Little (Seabrook, NH) made the finals with a 57.34. An astonishing 14 of the 15 participants broke the facility record (57.97) that was set in 2011.
"Noelle ran a strong race in the fastest heat of the event and eventually fell a few tenths of a second short," stated head coach Brian Chabot. "It doesn't diminish the great season she had. I know Noelle will come back stronger and more determined during the outdoor campaign."
Women's Track and Field turns its attention to the outdoor season and looks to capture its fourth consecutive Worcester City Meet Championship hosted by Worcester State on Saturday, March 31.
