Richards and Pearce Win Twice as Women's Outdoor TF Debuts at Worcester City Meet

Worcester, MA --- WPI senior Emily Pearce (Avon, CT) and junior Noelle Richard (Oxford, MA) along with Fitchburg State third-year Emily Lane (Clinton, CT) and Worcester State sophomore Hannah Werneth (N. Yarmouth, ME) all posted double wins for their respective teams at the Worcester City Meet hosted at John Coughlin Memorial Field.

Richard picked up from where she left off at the NCAA's with an Open New England time in the 400 (58.63) and a Division III New England Championship finish in the 200 (26.66). Pierce also top places in the long jump (15-4.75) and pole vault (10-6).

Other top Boynton Hiller performances in the distance circuit included junior Vicki Hewey(Sanford, ME) who ran a 12:08.7 in the 3k steeplechase,  sophomore Amy Babeu (Groveland, MA) in the 5,000 (19:12.07) and freshman Maria Grandoni (Framingham, MA) added a time of 5:03.86 in the 1,500.

On Friday at Holy Cross, freshman Andrea Caprio (Tewksbury, MA) impressed with a first-place toss of 130-7.25 for a new school record while Holy Cross senior Alexandria Culkeen (Beverly, MA) took the hammer throw with a distance of 154-6). Both distances were good to qualify for the Open New England Championships. 

Additional solid performers for WPI included Kimi Joback (Bedford, NH) who came in second in the hammer throw with a toss of 152-6 and in the shot put with a mark of 33-4.75. Emily Hartzell (Brunswick, ME) posted a 8-6 in the pole vault, good for second place. Laura Pumphrey (East Hampton, CT) was second in the high jump (4-9.75). Sarah Cook (New Paltz, NY) totalled a distance of 32-3.75 in the triple jump, while Caitlin Rush (Nashua, NH) placed second in the 1500 meter run (5:07.87). Maya Rhinehart (Springfield, MA) was second in the 400 meter run (1:01.95) while Kristine Zeeb (Nashua, NH) was second in the 400 meter hurdles (1:09.04).

Werneth tallied first in the shot put (37-2.50) and discus (106-11) as Lane had the fastest 400 meter hurdles time (1:08.19) before she cleared 4-11.75) in the high jump. Werneth's distances and Lanes 400 meter hurdles times were all DIII New England qualifers.

For the Lancers, junior Brittany Grueter (Foxboro, MA) timed 41:56.64 in the 10,000 – qualifying her for DIII New England's while junior Niki Lemelin (Beverly, MA) was first in the 100 (13.21).

Senior Madaline Merchant (Gardner, MA) of Fitchburg State took home the top spot in the triple jump (10.29m/33-09.25) and junior  Molly Kessler (Hopkinton, MA) of Assumption saw gold in the 800 (2:28.78).
