Hewey Leads Women's Track and Field at New England Championships

Cambridge, MA --- Vicky Hewey (Sanford, ME) placed fifth in the 3000-meter steeplechase (11:03.58) and ninth in the 5000-meter run (18:09.69) to lead the WPI women's track and field team to a 15th place finish at the 2012 Division III New England Championships hosted by MIT on Friday and Saturday.

Julie Eagle (Rock Island, IL) and Andrea Caprio (Tewksbury, MA) also had fifth-place finishes in their respective events, with Eagle posting a 5-2.25 in the high jump and Caprio throwing for 128-4 in the javelin.

Other top finishers included Adrianna Davis (Chelmsford, MA) who was sixth in the high jump (5-00.25), and Emily Pearce (Avon, CT) who finished eigth in the long jump (16-11.5). Laura Pumphrey (East Hampton, CT) was tenth in the high jump (5-00.25), while Kimi Joback (Bedford, NH) completed the javelin throw in eleventh place (117-10) and the hammer throw in fourteenth (138-3). Amy Babeu (Groveland, MA) was twelfth in the 5000-meter run (18:37.49).

Maya Rhinehart's (Springfield, MA) 1:00.82 time in the 400-meter dash placed her fifteenth, while Kristine Zeeb (Nashua, NH) was seventeenth in the 400-meter hurdles (1:09.30) and Emily Hartzell (Brunswick, ME) was eighteenth in the pole vault (9-8.00).

Women's Track and Field is back in action at MIT again next weekend as qualified athletes will compete in the All-New England Championships on Friday and Saturday.
