Troy, NY --- Senior Kyle Morette (Leominster, MA) capped a standout career by placing seventh in the pole vault (15-7) to lead WPI at the 2012 ECAC Men's Track and Field Championship hosted by RPI on Thursday and Friday. It marks the third career All-ECAC honor for Morette as he was second in the pole vault in 2010 and this past winter was part of the Engineers fifth place 4x400 meter relay team.
Gary Feldman Jr. (Ellington, CT) also tallied a point for the Crimson and Gray, finishing eighth in the hammer throw (167-5). With three points, the Engineers placed 57th in a field teams from throughout the region.
Wesley DeChristofaro (Woonsocket, RI) missed earning All-ECAC honors by 0.01 meters, coming in ninth in the triple jump (45-5). DeChristofaro was also 12th in the long jump (22-5). Tristan Richardson (Attleboro Falls, MA) finished 10th in the high jump (6-1), while Robert Hollinger (Averill Park, NY) clocked a time of 33:25.03 in the 10,000 meters, good for 11th.
Two Engineers finished 14th, with Andrew Zayac (Plymouth, MA) posting a 9:40.53 in the 3000 meter steeplechase, and Chris Farren (Plaistow, NH) throwing 161 feet, 7 inches in the hammer throw. Joey Collins (Standish, ME) was 15th in the 400 meters (50.01).
TJ Liguori (Westerly, RI) finished 19th in the hammer throw (150-8). The 4x100 meter relay team of Nick Aleles (Tappan, NY), Morette, Joey Collins (Standish, ME) and Ditton Kawalya (Bugolobi, Uganda) came in 21st place (43.67).
Next weekend is the NCAA Championships hosted by Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in Southern California. Selections will be announced late this weekend with high jumper Jameel Galloway (Randolph, MA) expected to earn a coveted spot.
