Springfield, MA --- WPI's 4x400 relay team and double winner Laura Pumphrey (East Hampton, CT) led the way as WPI Women's Track and Field finished second in the Springfield College Meet Saturday. Springfield won the meet as they scored 191 points, while WPI finished with 146, finishing in front of Westfield, RIC and Utica.
The 4x400-meter relay quartet including Maya Rhinehart (Springfield, MA), Noelle Richard (Oxford, MA), Kelsie Lazro (Somerset, MA) and Liz Pellegrini (Worcester, MA) finished in 4:12.49 to take the lead spot.
Pumphrey soared over 5-3.75 in the high jump to finish first and qualify for postseason. Pumphrey out-jumped teammate Julie Eagle (Rock Island, IL) who leaped 5-1.75 and placed second, qualifying her for postseason. Pumphrey racked up another first place finish in the 60-meter hurdles in a time of 9.68.
Richard won the 400-meter dash in a time of 59.00 qualifying her for postseason competition. The senior also finished second in the 200-meter dash in 26.58 and ran the second spot on the 4x400 team.
Pellegrini placed second in the 60-meter hurdles (9.76), a postseason qualifier, and tabbed a fourth place finish in the 200-meter dash (27.94). She ran the anchor for the 4x400 relay. Rhinehart posted a second place finish in the 400-meter dash (1:02.68) and ran the lead for the 4x400 relay. Lazaro earned a fourth place finish in the 400-meter dash (1:03.84) and ran the third leg for the 4x400 team.
Kimi Joback (Bedford, NH) tallied two third place finishes in the shot put with a distance of 32-8.25 and in the weight throw at 41-7.75.
Women's Indoor Track and Field is back in action after the New Year at Bowdoin Invitational on January 12th.
