Springfield, MA --- Wesley DeChristofaro (Woonsocket, RI) and Nate Martel (Standish, ME) led WPI Men's Indoor Track and Field to first place at the Springfield Meet on Saturday. 12 athletes had top three finishes for the Engineers.
DeChristofaro earned a top spot in the long jump scoring a distance of 22-11.25 and placed second in the triple jump at 43-9.25. Martel heaved the weight an impressive 52-5.25 to clinch the second spot in the weight throw.
Sophomore Joey Collins (Standish, ME) tallied a first place finish in the 200-meter dash at 23.60 and placed third in the 400-meter dash coming in at 52.17. Collins was also the lead-off for the 4x400 meter relay team who placed second on the day.
Jameel Galloway (Randolph, MA) leaped 6-2 to garner the top spot in the high jump. Four other WPI athletes posted second place finishes including Ryan Moran (Pembroke, MA) in the 3000 (9:05.11), Charles Plummer (Westboro, MA) in pole vault (12-07.50), Andrew Zayac (Plymouth, MA) in the 1-mile (4:31.67) and Austin Holliday (Danville, CA) in the 200-meter dash (23.77).
Third place finishes for WPI also included Julian Dano (Merrimack, NH) with 7.26 in the 60-meter dash, Jay Giambarresi (Amesbury, MA) in 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.08, Thomas Kostelak (Bernardsville, NJ) in the 1000-meter run crossing the line at 2:42.61, and Gary Feldman (Ellington, CT) right behind teammate Martel with a distance of 46-5.50 in the weight throw.
The Crimson and Gray 4x400 relay team including Collins, Nicholas Aleles (Tappan, NY), Holliday, and Stephen Kocienski (Schaghticoke, NY) finished second, while the young 4x800 team of Sean P. Murphy (West Barnstable, MA), Brad Bailey (Sandwich, MA), Nathan Varney (East Longmeadow, MA) and Lucas Roy (Bourne, MA) took third.
Men's Indoor Track and Field are off until they head to the Bowdoin Invitational on January 12th.
