Collins's Two Wins Lead Men's Track at Springfield Invitational

Springfield, MA --- Sophomore Joey Collins (Standish, ME) tallied first place finishes in both the 400 and the 200 helping the Engineers to a sixth finish in the Springfield Invitational this afternoon.  The WPI squad earned 51 points and placed ahead of the home team and five other schools.  St. Lawrence won the meet with 125 points.

Collins posted a season-best in the 400-meter finishing at 50.99.  The sophomore's performance surpassed the ECAC qualifying time.   He also finished at 23.04 for the top spot in the 200-meter.  Stephen Kocienski (Schaghticoke, NY) posted points in the 200 as well with his sixth place finish at 23.66.

The Engineers' Gary Feldman (Ellington, CT) threw for 49-6.25 to earn a second place finish in the weight throw while Tim Forrest (Madison, CT) took third in the 60-meter hurdles (8.58).

Senior high jumper Jameel Galloway (Randolph, MA) leaped 6-2 to a fourth place finish while teammate Tristan Richardson (Attleboro Falls, MA) finished in a three-way tie for fifth in the same event.  Edmund Eduah (Accra, Ghana) and Kocienski both finished fourth in the 60-meter dash and the 600-meter run respectively.

Other members of the Crimson and Gray earning points for their team include Feldman who hurled the shot put 43-10.50 for the sixth spot, Chris Plummer (Westboro, MA) who soared 12-7.50 in the pole vault for fifth place, and Patrick Murphy (Danvers, MA) who crossed the line at 2:40.38 in the 1000-meter run coming in fifth.

WPI returns to the track next weekend when they travel to Rhode Island for the URI Invitational on Saturday, February 2nd at 11:00am.
