Springfield, MA --- Stephen Kocienski (Schaghticoke, NY) and Wesley DeChristofaro (Woonsocket, RI) earned two first place finishes apiece to lead WPI to victory Saturday at the Springfield, Coast Guard Tri-Meet. Kocienski won the 200 at 22.84 and the 400 at 50.92, while DeChristofaro leapt 6-04.00 in the high jump and 47-07.25 in the triple jump. WPI dominated the meet with 186.5 points, in front of Coast Guard (117.5) and Springfield (102).
The Engineer relay teams won two events on the day. Edmund Eduah (Accra, Ghana), Joey Collins (Standish, ME), Jameel Galloway (Randolph, MA) and Ditton Kawalya (Kampala, Uganda) won the 4x100 crossing the line at 43.90, while Collins, Nicholas Aleles (Tappan, NY), Thomas Kostelak (Bernardsville, NJ) and Kocienski won the 4x400.
The members of the relay teams excelled individually as well. Kawalya took second place in the 100 (11.22) and third in the 200 (23.07), and Galloway soared 6-02.00 in the high jump for the number two spot. Eduah finished behind teammate DeChristofaro in the triple jump bounding 42-02.00, while Kostelak earned a second place finish in the 800 (2:00.42). Collins came in third in the 400-meter with a time of 51.63.
Gary Feldman (Ellington, CT) threw well in both the shot put (43-03.5) and the hammer (166-00) for two second place finishes. Nate Martel (Standish, ME) hurled the discuss 138-07 for the number two spot. Other second place finishes for the Crimson and Gray included Charles Plummer (Westboro, MA) in the pole vault (12-07.50), Tim Forrest (Madison, CT) in the 110-meter hurdles (15.2) and Ryan Moran (Pembroke, MA) in the 1500 (4:08.65).
Patrick Murphy (Danvers, MA), Lucas Roy (Bourne, MA) and George Kuegler (Tewksbury, MA) posted third place finishes in the 800 (2:01.67), 1500 (4:10.43) and the 110-meter hurdles (16.18) respectively.
The men's track and field team will compete in the Springfield Invitational next Saturday.
