Men’s Track and Field Dominates Springfield Invitational

Springfield, MA --- The men's track and field team won by over 100 points at Saturday's Springfield invitational that included ten teams.  The Engineers racked up 229 points while the second place team, Springfield, tallied 123.5.

T.J. Liguori (Westerly, RI) posted two personal records today in both the hammer throw (149-11) and the discus (123-07).

The Engineers had four first place finishes including Stephen Kocienski (Schaghticoke, NY) in the 400 (50.52), Kyle Gerlach (Smithfield, RI) in the 3000 steeplechase (10:23.00), Jameel Galloway (Randolph, MA) in the high jump (6-06.00) and Wesley DeChristofaro (Woonsocket, RI) in the triple jump (44-02.50).  Kocienski garnered a third place finish in the 200 with a time of 22.96, while DeChristofaro soared 6-04.00 in the high jump. 

Shane Ruddy (Seneca Falls, NY) and Keegan Westwater (North Andover, MA) took second and third in the 3000 steeplechase as WPI took the top three spots. 

The Crimson and Gray secured the second through fourth place in the pole vault when Charles Plummer (Westboro, MA) leapt for second (12-07.50), Alex Bennett (El Paso, TX) earned third (12-07.50) and Connor Morette (Leominster, MA) clinched the fourth spot (12-01.50).

Nicholas Aleles (Tappan, NY) took second in the 400 with a time of 51.46, while teammate Tim Forrest (Madison, CT) nabbed the number two spot in the 110 hurdles at 15.31.  Forrest also contributed points with a third place finish in the 400 hurdles (57.43). 

Nate Martel (Standish, ME) and Gary Feldman (Ellington, CT) tabbed the third and fourth spots respectively in the discus (139-09 and 131-06).  The two traded places in the hammer as Feldman took third (156-02) and Martel at fourth (151-08).  Martel also took the fourth spot in the shot put catapulting it for 41-04.25.

Also earning points for the Boyton Hillers are a third place finish by Zac Chupka (Douglas, MA) in the javelin (168-00), and fourth place finishes by Ben Altshuler (Ellenville, NY) in the triple jump (40-11.00),  Lucas Roy (Bourne, MA) in the 800 (2:00.98), Ryan Moran (Pembroke, MA) in the 1500 (4:07.40) and Robert Hollinger (Averill Park, NY) in the 5000 (16:01.02). 

WPI returns to the track next weekend in NEWMAC action at Springfield.
