Waterville, ME --- Led by Wesley DeChristofaro (Woonsocket, RI), WPI finished eleventh at this weekend's New England Division III Championships at Colby. The junior won the long jump with a distance of 23-0.75, placed seventh in the triple jump at 42-2.25 and in the high jump soaring 6-2. All three finishes earned him All-New England status and helped the Engineers accumulate 30 points. Bates took the top spot with 144 points.
Joining DeChristofaro in the high jump was Jameel Galloway (Randolph, MA) jumping 6-4 for fifth place and Tristan Richardson (Attleboro Falls, MA) leaping 6-2 for eighth place, both receiving All-New England credit.
Zac Chupka (Douglas, MA) placed sixth in the javelin heaving for 179-6 and gaining All-New England distinction.
Tim Forrest (Madison, CT) earned points for WPI with a seventh place finish in the 110-meter hurdles. The junior ran 15.37 for All-New England status. Also, earning a seventh place spot was Stephen Kocienski (Schaghticoke, NY) in the 400. The senior bettered his school record with a time of 49.31 and All-New England honors.
The 4x400 team of Joey Collins (Standish, ME), Nicholas Aleles (Tappan, NY), Ryan Shooshan (Paxton, MA), and Kocienski earned points for the Crimson and Gray with a 3:21.54 finish and a fifth place spot.
Other notable performances came from Nate Martel (Standish, ME) who threw for 138-9 in the discus and an eleventh place finish, T.J. Liguori (Westerly, RI) who posted a fifteenth place finish in the hammer throw with a distance of 150-9, and Matt Butler (Lincoln, RI) who finished right behind his teammate in the sixteenth spot with a tossing 149-9 in the hammer.
The men's team returns to action Friday at Stonehill for the All-New England Championships.
