Moran Sets 3,000-Meter Run Record as Men’s Track and Field Finishes Second at Bowdoin

Brunswick, ME --- Ryan Moran (Pembroke, MA) set the school record in the 3,000-meter run as the WPI men's track and field team placed second at the Bowdoin Invitational on Saturday.

No. 7 MIT won the competition with 204.33 points followed by the Crimson and Gray with 102. The host Polar Bears (95) were third as RPI (91.5) placed fourth, Springfield (42.73) came home fifth and Colby-Sawyer (19.33) finished sixth.

Moran clocked a third-place 8:47.98 to reset the program indoor 3K record, which was previously held by Justin Lutz '02, and earn entry to the Division III New England and ECAC Division III Championships. Despite finishing seventh in the 3k, Austin Scott (Waddington, NY) qualified for the DIII NE competition with a time of 8:53.32.

Lucas Roy (Bourne, MA) won the 800-meter run with an DIII NE and All-New England qualifying time of 1:57.62. He was followed by David Goodrich (North Haven, CT) with a sixth-place time of 2:02.37. Andrew Zayac (Plymouth, MA) captured the 1,000-meter run (2:34.7) and earned a spot in the DIII NE event.

Also earning DIII NE invites were Brian D'Amore (Medfield, MA) in the 60-meter dash (2nd – 7.20), Joey Collins (Standish, ME) and Ryan Dennis (Milford, CT) with second (51.10) and fourth-place (51.52) showings in the 400-meter dash, Austin Holliday (Danville, CA) in the 200-meter dash (fourth – 23.13) and Jason Beauregard (New Bedford, MA) in the weight throw (sixth – 47-2.75). Jack DeVine (Wilbraham, MA) and Brandon Hoghaug (Douglas, MA) matched their qualifying marks at last month's Springfield Invitational with heights of 6-4 and 6-2 in the high jump to finish second and third, respectively.

David Frederick (Orono, ME) finished second (13-1.5) in the pole vault due to a tiebreaker while Connor Morette (Leominster, MA) came in third (12-7.5) for the Engineers. The 4x800-meter relay team consisting of Roy, Thomas Kostelak (Bernardsville, NJ), Goodrich and Zayac placed second with an 8:14.10 while Holliday, Dennis, Paul-Henry Schoenhagen (Cleveland Heights, OH) and Nicholas Aleles (Tappan, NY) turned in a third-place 3:29.38 in the 4x400-meter relay.

Holliday also came home fourth in the 60-meter dash (7.23) and Hugh Whelan (Madison, CT) was sixth (7.30). Justin Trott (North Hampton, NH) added a fifth-place showing in the 5,000-meter run (16:00.11) as Aleles notched a sixth-place 52.55 in the 400-meter dash and DeVine was sixth in the long jump (19-9).
