Boston, MA --- Austin Holliday (Danville, CA) and Ryan Dennis (Milford, CT) combined to set three school records as the WPI men's track and field team competed against teams from all three NCAA divisions and more at the Boston University Scarlet and White Invitational on Saturday.
Holliday reclaimed the 60-meter dash record with a seventh-place 7.11 and set the 200-meter dash standard with a 13th-place 22.20. Dennis made his mark in the 500-meter dash with a 10th-place 1:06.56.
Connor Morette (Leominster, MA) set a new personal best of 13-9.25 to take sixth in the pole vault while Nate Martel (Steep Falls, ME) qualified for the Division III New England championship with a seventh-place distance of 44-5-25 in the shot put. Andrew Zayac (Plymouth, MA) also notched a seventh-place showing with a 2:31.16 in the 1,000-meter run. Keith Guay (Nashua, NH) cleared 5-10.75 for 11th in the high jump.
Warren Staver (Centreville, MD) was 23rd in the 400-meter dash with a time of 50.09 and Justin Trott (North Hampton, NH) was 25th in the 3,000-meter run. David Goodrich (North Haven, CT) came home 34th in the 800-meter run (2:00.12).
Lucas Roy (Bourne, MA), Joey Collins (Standish, ME), Thomas Kostelak (Bernardsville, NJ) and Austin Scott (Waddington, NY) began their day at Tufts and came home second, just missing the school record, with a 10:15.47 in the distance medley relay. Holliday, Dennis, Staver and Collins capped the competition with a sixth place 3:18.95 in the 4x400-meter relay.
The men's track and field team makes a return trip to Boston University for the David Hemery Valentine Invitational on Saturday.
