Springfield, MA --- The WPI men's track and field team accumulated a total of 10 All-New England nods en route to a 12th place showing at the 2015 NCAA Division III New England Indoor Championship hosted by Springfield on Saturday. MIT claimed the team crown with 129 points while the Boynton Hillers posted 23.5.
Austin Scott (Waddington, NY), Nicholas Aleles (Tappan, NY), David Goodrich (North Haven, CT) and Ryan Moran (Pembroke, MA) teamed up to finish third in the distance medley relay in a time of 10:26.08. Lucas Roy (Bourne, MA) was fourth (2:31.76) and Andrew Zayac (Plymouth, MA) came home seventh (2:33.09) in the 1,000-meter run.
David Frederick (Orono, ME) shared sixth place in the pole vault (13-9.25) as Connor Morette (Leominster, MA) achieved a 13-3.5 for 11th. Nate Martel (Steep Falls, ME) qualified for the ECAC Division III New England Championships with a toss of 51-5.75 to take seventh in the weight throw. Jason Beauregard (New Bedford, MA) followed with a 44-9 to end the day in 15th place.
Nick Dalton (Woburn, MA) competed in the two-day heptathlon and amassed a seventh-place, and career-best, score of 4,161. He began the competition with a victory in the 60-meter dash (7.31) and later won his 60-meter hurdles heat in a time of 9.11. Jack DeVine (Wilbraham, MA) tied for seventh in the high jump (6-4) with Brandon Hoghaug (Douglas, MA) narrowly missing out on All-New England status with a ninth-place height of 6-2.
Also earning All-New England accolades were Scott in the mile (eighth, 4:21.87), Austin Holliday (Danville, CA) in the 200-meter dash (eighth, 22.99) and the team of Holliday, Ryan Dennis (Milford, CT), Paul-Henry Schoenhagen (Cleveland Heights, OH), Joey Collins (Standish, ME) in the 4x400-meter relay (eighth, 3:29.28).
Collins and Dennis posted the 12th (51.44) and 13th (51.60) best time in the 400-meter dash with Warren Staver (Centreville, MD) coming home 21st (52.14).
In early action, Holliday led a trio of Engineers in the 60-meter dash with a 15th-place 7.18. Brian D'Amore (Medfield, MA) and Hugh Whelan (Madison, CT) crossed the finish line in the 21st (7.25) and 23rd (7.27) best times.
Roy, Thomas Kostelak (Bernardsville, NJ), Staver and Zayac engineered an 8:19.86 to finish 15th in the 4x800-meter relay while Martel and Chad Dellaporta (Billerica, MA) added 18th and 19th place heaves of 43-7 and 43-5.25 in the shot put.
Eligible Men's Track and Field student-athletes head back to Boston University for the All-New England Championships next weekend.
