Worcester, MA --- Nick Dalton (Woburn, MA) and Abigail McAdams (Oakdale, CT) represented the WPI men's and women's track and field teams at the two-day Holy Cross Decathlon and Heptathlon which wrapped up on Thursday evening.
Dalton led all Division III competitors and was ninth overall in the decathlon after day one with 3,171 points. He went on to complete the event with 5,505 points, good for 10th overall and second amongst Division III participants. His point total is currently fifth on the Division III New England performance list.
The two-day event saw Dalton register personal-bests in the 400-meter dash (52.56) and discus (88-1). He began the competition by winning his 100-meter dash heat in a time of 11.14. Dalton leaped 19-4 in the long jump and cleared 5-8.5 in the high jump while also achieving a distance of 33-7.25 in the shot put on Wednesday. Thursday saw Dalton clock a 16.80 in the 110-meter hurdles and 5:04.55 in the 1,500-meter run. He launched the javelin 134-5 and cleared 9-2.25 in the pole vault.
McAdams finished 16th in the heptathlon with 3,121 points, of which 1,839 were accumulated through the four events on Wednesday. The rookie began the event with a time of 18.27 in the 100-meter hurdles and closed out the first day with a time of 30.79 in the 200-meter dash. Between sprints, McAdams cleared 4-6.25 in the high jump and sent the shot put 29-3.25. On Thursday, McAdams leaped 13-11 in the long jump and tossed the javelin nearly 74 feet (73-11). She wrapped up the competition with a time of 2:39.23 in the 800-meter run.
