Norton, MA --- The WPI women's track and field team saw four individual victories and a number of second place performances at the non-scoring Wheaton Invitational on Saturday.
The Engineers entered the meet ranked 10th in the region by the USTFCCCA.
Senior Lauren Richard (Plymouth, MA) and freshman Xandria Korn (Woodinville, WA) shined in the field with wins in the triple jump (35-11.25) and high jump (5-2.25), respectively. Senior Liz Pellegrini (Worcester, MA), who placed second in the 60-meter hurdles prelims (9.29), needed only 9.20 to win the finals. Sophomore Lea Strangio (Watertown, MA), meanwhile, crossed the finish line first in the 500-meter run (1:19.41).
Freshman Carley Dykstra (Andover, NJ) was second in the pole vault (10-6) as was classmate Kendra O'Malley (Charlton, MA) in the weight throw (40-8.25), sophomore Kelsey Leigher (Oxford, MA) in the shot put (35-1.75) and sophomore Taylor Teed (Boxford, MA) in the long jump (16-0.5). The 4x400-meter relay quartet of senior Alex Price (Franklin, MA), Pellegrini, Strangio and sophomore Sara Velleca (Woodbury, CT) collaborated to finish second in a time of 4:00.97, which is 16th on the NCAA Division III leaderboard as of Sunday morning. Sophomore Emily Newman (Easton, MA) chipped in with a runner up placing in the 3,000-meter run (10:39.11).
Teed was third in the 200-meter dash (27.21) while Price was third in the prelims (8.10) and finals (8.11) of the 60-meter dash. Junior Lauren Farry (Pittsfield, MA) collected a third-place finish in the mile with a time of 5:47.38 to go along with Pellegrini's third-place 58.96 in the 400-meter dash. Pellegrini's time in the 60mH and 400m are currently 19th in Division III.
Tevenan and sophomore Emma MacIntyre (Grand Island, NY) placed fifth in the 1,200-meter run (3:45.82) and 800-meter run (2:40.24).
On Friday, sophomore Abby McAdams (Montville, CT) turned in a fifth-place score in the pentathlon (2,687), highlighted by second-place performances in the shot put (32-0.25) and 800-meter run (2:38.73). She also finished third in the high jump (4-11) and was third in her heat in the 60-meter hurdles with a PR of 10.68.
Women's Track and Field makes the first of three February trips to Boston University Saturday for the Scarlet and White Invitational.
