Waverly, IA – WPI senior Liz Pellegrini (Worcester, MA) advanced to Saturday's 400-meter hurdle national title race thanks to a school-record performance Thursday afternoon at the 2016 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships hosted by Wartburg.
Pellegrini, who was one of five to break the facility record, finished second in the third heat with a fifth-place time of 1:01.05. She will race for All-America honors on Saturday at 4:25pm Eastern, 3:25 Central.
About an hour earlier, Pellegrini teamed with senior Alex Price (Franklin, MA), freshman Michelle Gencorelli (Andover, MA) and sophomore Sara Velleca (Woodbury, CT) to place 13th in the 4x100-meter relay in a time of 47.63. Southern Maine led the New England contingent followed by WPI and Wheaton.
Senior Jason Beauregard (New Bedford, MA) will also be in action Saturday when the hammer throw begins at 3:30pm Eastern, 2:30pm Central.
