Boston, MA --- The WPI women's track and Field 4x400-meter relay was selected as the NEWMAC Relay Team of the Week. It is the first quartet since last year's 4x100-meter relay was feted for the week ending April 3, 2016. It is also the first relay other than the 4x100 to claim the award, which also earned it twice in 2015.
The team of sophomore Katie Nugent (Huntington, CT), senior Kimberlee Kocienski (Schaghticoke, NY), junior Lea Strangio (Watertown, MA) and freshman Sydney Packard (Georgetown, MA) won the 4x400-meter relay with a record-breaking time of 3:55.65 at the Springfield College Classic. The time is 13th in DIII, second in DIII New England and first in the NEWMAC.
Earlier in the meet, Packard, Nugent and Strangio claimed the top three spots in the solo version of the 400 while Kocienski was 13th in the 200-meter dash.
The Engineers head to MIT Saturday for the 2017 NEWMAC Track & Field Championships.
