Norton, MA --- Sophomore Sydney Packard (Georgetown, MA) clocked the top 800-meter run time in Division III this season as she and freshman Arden Tanner (Ventura, CA) each set a WPI record Saturday as Women's Track & Field competed at the non-scoring Wheaton Invitational.
The 23rd-ranked team in the country took on host Wheaton, Wellesley, Bridgewater State, Conn. College and Wheelock.
Packard posted a winning-time of 2:12.13 - 2:10.63 on a banked track - which is currently the atop the Division III performance list by nearly four seconds and is second in New England across all three divisions. Tanner was the first to crush a record with a 7.90 in the 60-meter dash trials. The mark is also currently 14th on the NCAA Division III performance list. The 800m also saw senior Lea Strangio (Watertown, MA) turn in the 11th-best mark with a converted time of 2:18.77. Senior Emily Newman (Easton, MA) ran a 5:18.47 (5:15.35) mile to earn gold and rank just outside of the top 50.
Senior Abby McAdams (Montville, CT) used a PR of 5-1.75 in the high jump to claim victory as freshman Elizabeth Kirschner (Hamilton, MA) achieved a winning-distance of 35-2.5 in the triple jump. Sophomore Faye Gauthier (West Warwick, RI) won the weight throw with a toss of 47-1. Freshman Kelley Townley (Liverpool, NY) triumphed for the second consecutive week in the pole vault, this time with a height of 9-5.75 and classmate Keely Nistler (Vadnais Heights, MN) ran an 18:54.50 to take the 5,000-meter run in her first attempt. Senior Kirsten Herchenroder (Plaistow, NH) posted a PR of 43-1.25 in the weight throw while classmate Emma MacIntyre (Grand Island, NY) handed in her best time of 3:16.46 in the 1,000-meter run.
WPI heads back to Wheaton Saturday for a 4pm start.
