Women’s Track & Field Competes at Wheaton Invitational, DMR Sets Record at BU

Norton, MA --- Women's Track & Field junior Carley Dykstra (Andover, NJ) won the pole vault at the non-scoring Wheaton Invitational and the distance medley relay team posted the second-ranked time in Division III at the BU Terrier Invitational Saturday.

Senior Emily Newman (Easton, MA), senior Maggie LaRoche (Silverlake, NH), senior Lea Strangio (Watertown, MA) and sophomore Sydney Packard (Georgetown, MA) began the day with a 11:51.19 to set a new school record, down from their previous mark of 12:23.81, to place fifth overall in the DMR at BU. Bowdoin, the top Division III foursome was in the other heat and posted a third-place time of 11:49.86.

At Wheaton, WPI, the eighth-ranked team in the latest USTFCCCA Division III computer rankings opposed seventh-ranked UMass Boston, who was without sophomore Wadeline Jonathas (Gonaives, Haiti), the national leader in the 60-meter dash and 200-meter dash as well as repeat USFTCCCA Division III Women's Track Athlete of the Week, as she broke the all-time Division III 400-meter dash record at BU a day earlier. Other teams included (in ranked order) the host Lyons, Colby, Coast Guard, Bridgewater State and Wheelock.

Dykstra collected the only victory for the Engineers with a height of 9-10 in the pole vault. Strangio and Packard ended the day collaborating with senior Taylor Teed (Boxford, MA) and freshman Lauren Kaija (Reading, VT) to hand in the 15th-ranked 4x400-meter relay with a converted time of 4:01.94.

Teed clocked a PR of 8.13 in the 60-meter prelims and junior Kendra O'Malley (Charlton, MA) achieved a personal-best distance of 45-7.25 in the weight throw. Senior Abby McAdams (Montville, CT) and sophomore Callie Schadt (Brewster, MA) posted their collegiate bests in the 200-meter dash (28.96) and 3,000-meter run (10:40.21), respectively.

The Engineers will head to the Tufts Cupid Challenge and select student-athletes will compete in the All-New England (NEICAAA) Championships at the Reggie Lewis Center this weekend. The list below does not indicate intent to participate in the latter.
