Medford, MA --- Sophomore Sydney Packard (Georgetown, MA) broke yet another WPI record as Women's Track & Field competed against four other nationally-ranked teams, and more, at the Tufts Cupid Challenge Saturday in Gantcher Field House.
The 13th-ranked Engineers were joined by No. 1 Williams, No. 3 MIT, No. 22 Tufts and No. 23 Brandeis. Amherst, Conn College, Haverford, Middlebury, Mount Holyoke, Geneseo and Wellesley also competed at the event.
Packard's 3,000-meter run time of 10:18.71 was over 10 seconds better than the previous mark of 10:28.76 set by Vickey Hewey '13 in 2010. The performance is also the 33rd fastest in Division III this season. Senior Abby McAdams (Montville, CT) won the shot put (34-8.5) en route to 2,866 points to place fourth, and rank 38th on the nationally, in the pentathlon.
Senior Lea Strangio (Watertown, MA) collected a first-place finish in the 600-meter dash with a time of 1:38.99 while also teaming with classmate Emily Newman (Easton, MA), freshman Keely Nistler (Vadnais Heights, MN) and freshman Lauren Kaija (Reading, VT) to take the 4x800-meter relay (9:58.54). The individual 800 saw senior Maggie LaRoche (Silverlake, NH) PR with a time of 2:20.85.
The shot put and weight throw saw a pair of rookies hand in their season bests in their fourth tries of the season. Allison Kloeckner (Shelburne, VT) achieved distances of 35-11 and 43-11.75 while Lauren Herchenroder (Plaistow, NH) registered 29 feet and 31-10.5, respectively.
WPI ships up to Boston for the women's portion of the BU Valentine Invitational on Friday.
