Brunswick, ME --- Seniors Carley Dykstra (Andover, NJ) and Xandria Korn (Woodinville, WA), as well as, the 4x800-meter relay struck gold as the WPI women's indoor track & field team took second in the 2019 season debut at Saturday's Bowdoin Invitational.
The hosts totaled 176 points for the team title as the Engineers, who are ranked 17th in the USTFCCCA NCAA Division III preseason national rating index, totaled 146. Rhode Island College was third (112) followed by Wheaton (66), Connecticut Collge (64.5), Husson (27), St. Joseph's (ME) (13), Thomas (2.5) and Colby-Sawyer (2).
Dykstra delivered the pole vault with a clearance of 11-2.5 followed by freshman Bridget Wirtz (Branford, CT) in third. Korn cleared 5-1 to win the high jump. Sophomores Elizabeth Kirschner (South Hamilton, MA) and Katherine Rosivach (Westerly, RI) claimed third and sixth for the Crimson and Gray. The 4x800m consisting of freshman Mary Scrivanich (Old Tappan, NJ), junior Sydney Packard (Georgetown, MA), sophomore Keely Nistler (Vadnais Heights, MN) and graduate student Emily Newman (Easton, MA) needed just over 10 minutes (10:01.15) to cross the finish line first. Sophomore Katy Nippert (Salem, NH) achieved a distance of 16-10.75 for the long jump title as freshman Victoria Carreiro (Westerly, RI) debuted in fifth.
Freshman Janelle Knight (Santa Barbara, CA) was second in the 60-meter dash (8.03) as was sophomore Lauren Kaija (Reading, VT) in the 600-meter run (1:42.94) and sophomore Amanda Lowther (Syracuse, NY) was fourth. Senior Katie Nugent (Huntington Station, NY) and sophomore Madison Perry (Biddeford, ME) took second (1:02.22) and fifth in the 400-meter dash while freshman Ciara Young (Milton, MA) and Newman were second (3:05.75) and fifth in the 1,000-meter run. The mile featured Nistler in second (5:25.19) and junior Callie Schadt (Brewster, MA) in sixth.
The 4x200-meter and 4x400-meter relays were third as Knight, sophomore Arden Tanner (Ventura, CA), senior Michelle Gencorelli (Andover, MA) and senior Kendra O'Malley (Charlton, MA) clocked a 1:51.21, and Nugent, Lowther, Perry and freshman Emma Hartzel (Littleton, MA) handed in a 4:24.63. Hartzel also took third in the 800-meter run (2:30.92) while Scrivanich was fourth. Senior Carly Neeld (Williston, VT) and sophomore Allison Kloeckner (Shelburne, VT) earned bronze in the 5,000-meter run (20:57.08) and shot put (34-10.5), respectively.
Junior Ari Rozen (Carver, MA) claimed fourth in the 3,000-meter run and Gencorelli was 12th in the 200-meter dash. Sophomore Abby McGahey (Canandaigua, NY) leaped 31-1.25 in the triple jump and junior Faye Gauthier (West Warwick, RI) achieved a distance of 46-6 in the weight throw as both picked up fifth place points.
The Engineers are at Wheaton Saturday for a 3:30pm invitational.
