Boston and Medford, MA --- WPI men's track & field sophomore Oliver Thomas (Goffstown, NH) clocked the fourth-fastest 60-meter hurdle time this year in Division III at the NEICAAA (All-New England All-Divisions) Championships Friday night at the Reggie Lewis Center and classmate Malek Elshakhs (Storrs, CT) won the same event at the Tufts Cupid Challenge on Saturday.

Thomas delivered a WPI record 8.13 in the first round on Friday night. He then registered identical times of 8.21 in Saturday's semifinal and final. The lone Division III student-athlete to reach the final placed third to earn All-New England accolades. Senior Antoine Harris (Southington, CT) and sophomore Matt Adiletta (Bolton, MA) reached the 60-meter dash semifinals; however, only Adiletta made the final where he earned All-New England honors with an eighth-place 7.05. His best time of 7.04 was achieved in the semis. Adiletta and Harris were joined by junior Alex Rus (Newton, MA) and senior Ryan Wittenberg (Bedford, NH) in the 4x400-meter relay. The quartet was a mere .08 shy of an All-New England nod with a time of 3:22.43.

Over at the Tufts Cupid Challenge that featured No. 7 MIT, No. 14 Amherst, No. 19 Williams, No. 24 Tufts, New England No. 3 WPI, Atlantic No. 5 SUNY Geneseo, Brandeis and Connecticut College, Elshakhs capitalized on his opportunity with a winning and Division III New England qualifying time of 8.52 in the final. Sophomore Ben Steeves (Hollis, ME) also secured a victory and earned a spot in the regional meet with a PR of 1:22.99 in the 600-meter run.

Rus checked in with a second-place 50.80 in the 400-meter dash as sophomore Johann Bradley (Slidell, LA) was the runner up in the pole vault with a clearance of 14-11. Both relays also took second as junior Nick Fleury (Hopkinton, NH), junior Fabian Gaziano (Wilbraham, MA), junior Quinton Schimmel (Monroe Township, NJ) and sophomore Yossef Naim (Marlboro, MA) posted a 3:32.59 and freshman Nate Meyer (Princeton, MA), senior Remington Gaetjens (Limerick, ME), freshman Andrew Yatsuhashi (Reading, MA) and Steeves were on the wrong end of a head-to-head matchup with a team from Williams.

Junior Garth Hull (Arlington, MA) cleared 5-10.75, which was good for fourth in the high jump. Elshakhs also placed sixth in the triple jump (40-8.75) to go with a sixth-place 42-9.75 by junior Matt Jankowski (Burlington, MA) in the shot put. Freshman Nate Meyer (Princeton, MA) crossed the 800-meter run finish line with a seventh-place, and D3NE time, of 1:57.07. Fleury, junior William Kopellas (Needham, MA) and sophomore Sullivan Boyd (Woolwich, ME) were seventh in the 200-meter dash (23.47), long jump (20-0.25) and weight throw (46-9.5), respectively.

Senior Remington Gaetjens (Limerick, ME) was ninth in the 1,000-meter run (2:38.53) while the 3,000-meter run saw junior Tom Hanlon (Derry, NH) and freshman Brian Brooks (Brewster, MA) deliver D3NE performances of 8:50.79 and 8:51.21. Senior Michael Brady (Medway, MA) ran a 15:20.86 in the 5,000-meter run. Yatsuhashi also led the Boynton Hillers in the mile and freshman Andrew Whitney (North Kingston, RI) represented the Crimson and Gray in the 60-meter dash.
