Springfield, MA --- Sophomores Matt Adiletta (Bolton, MA), Oliver Thomas (Goffstown, NH) and Johann Bradley (Slidell, LA) each collected a victory as the WPI men's track & field team took part in Saturday's non-scoring Springfield Invitational.
The ninth-ranked Engineers were joined by No. 12 MIT, No. 24 Williams, Coast Guard, Connecticut College, the hosts, Trinity and Tufts.
Adiletta was first in the 60-meter dash with a 7.04 in the final while Thomas was third with a Division III New England qualifying time of 7.13. Thomas claimed the 60-meter hurdles with an 8.21 while junior Fabian Gaziano (Wilbraham, MA) sprinted to an even nine seconds in the prelims and Bradley once again cleared 14-11 in the pole vault.
The Engineers also boasted a number of second place showings. Sophomore Ben Steeves (Hollis, ME), freshman Jackson Hauman (South Burlington, VT), senior Remington Gaetjens (Limerick, ME) and junior Kevin O'Driscoll (Norwell, MA) went head-to-head with a 4x800-meter relay quartet from Trinity while junior Tom Hanlon (Derry, NH), sophomore Yossef Naim (Marlboro, MA), freshman Nate Meyer (Princeton, MA) and freshman Brian Brooks (Brewster, MA) were second of three teams in the distance medley relay with a time of 10:34.72.
Steeves was the runner up in the 600-meter run (1:23.71), as was Brooks in the 800-meter run (1:57.94). Naim earned silver in the 400-meter dash (52.38) and freshman Andrew Yatsuhashi (Reading, MA) was second in the mile (4:29.96). The 800m also saw Hanlon hand in a 1:59.63.
Freshman Andrew Whitney (North Kingston, RI) was third in the long jump and improved his Division III New England qualifying distance with a 21-5.50 in the long jump. Junior Matt Jankowski (Burlington, MA) and sophomore Sullivan Boyd (Woolwich, ME) earned invites in the shot put (44-9.5) and weight throw (49-0.75).
Both junior Garth Hull (Arlington, MA) and freshman Mike Reilly (Stoneham, MA) cleared 6-0.75 in the high jump. Freshman Devin Coughlin (Newton, MA) posted a 23.90 in the 200-meter run and Meyer delivered a 2:39.68 in the 1,000-meter run. Senior Michael Brady (Medway, MA) crossed the 3,000-meter run finish line in a time of 8:56.36.
WPI travels to MIT for the Division III New England Championships on Friday and Saturday.
