Dykstra, Nippert and Knight Highlight Women’s Track & Field at Springfield

Springfield, MA --- Senior Carley Dykstra (Andover, NJ) and sophomore Katy Nippert (Salem, NH) each set a school record and freshman Janelle Knight (Santa Barbara, CA) won an event as the WPI women's track & field team competed Saturday at the Springfield Invitational.

In addition to No. 22 WPI, the meet included No. 2 Williams, No. 5 MIT and No. 13 Coast Guard, as well as, Connecticut College, the host Pride, Trinity and Tufts.

Dykstra once again reset the standard in the pole vault, this time with a height of 12-6.25 to place second and rank fifth on the NCAA Division III performance list. Nippert bettered her own record twice in the long jump with an 18-4 and then an 18-6.5 to rank ninth. Knight won the 60-meter dash in a time of 8.03.

The pole vault also saw freshman Bridget Wirtz (Branford, CT) move from 41st to 25th with a clearance of 11-10.5 as sophomore Arden Tanner (Ventura, CA) finished second in the 60-meter dash with a time of 8.11 in the final after clocking an 8.05 in the prelims. Junior Faye Gauthier (West Warwick, RI) improved on her Division III New England Championships entry mark with a heave of 48-3.5 while classmate Aleye Momodu (Milford, MA) earned a spot with a 44-7.

Sophomore Lauren Kaija (Reading, VT) handed in a 1:43.40 in the 600-meter run and was followed by classmate Madison Perry (Biddeford, ME) with a time of 1:44.89. Sophomore Abby McGahey (Canandaigua, NY) leaped 32-11.75 in the triple jump and classmate Allison Kloeckner (Shelburne, VT) recorded a distance of 36-8.25 in the shot put.

The lone distance medley relay team which featured sophomore Keely Nistler (Vadnais Heights, MN), senior Katie Nugent (Huntington Station, NY), junior Callie Schadt (Brewster, MA) and junior Ari Rozen (Carver, MA) raced against the clock and finished in a time of 12:54.41.

Seniors Kendra O'Malley (Charlton, MA) and Cole Godzinski (North Reading, MA) posted times of 28.31 and 30.56, respectively, in the 200-meter dash. Godzinski also handed in a 10.44 in the 60-meter hurdle prelims. Graduate student Emily Newman (Easton, MA) guided a trio of Engineers in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:29.87. Freshmen Mary Scrivanich (Old Tappan, NJ) and Emma Hartzel (Littleton, MA) followed with times of 2:31.62 and 2:31.76.

In the 1,000-meter run, sophomore Amanda Lowther (Syracuse, NY) crossed the finish line in 3:20.65 as freshman Nicole Whipkey (Portland, ME) trailed with a 3:23.55. Senior Carly Neeld (Williston, VT) notched an 11:39.51 in the 3,000-meter run and classmate Steffany Halfrey (Hubbardston, MA) was third of seven with a 19.32.42 in the 5000-meter run.

WPI treks to Bowdoin for the Division III New England Championships on Friday and Saturday.
