New Haven, CT --- Freshman Bridget Wirtz (Branford, CT) earned All-NEICAAA honors as select members of the WPI women's track & field team competed at the All-New England All-Divisions meet Friday and Saturday at Southern Connecticut State University.
Dartmouth claimed the team title with 107 points while Wirtz's points put the Engineers ahead of Babson, Amherst and Smith in the 41-team field.
The pole vaulter posted a personal-best 12-2 to take sixth place and unofficially tie for 25th on the NCAA Division III performance list. Senior Michelle Gencorelli (Andover, MA) clocked a season-best 26.04 in the 200-meter dash.
Also posting top-10 performances were senior Xandria Korn (Woodinville, WA) in the high jump (5-2.25) and junior Faye Gauthier (West Warwick, RI) in the hammer (159-11). Senior Kendra O'Malley (Charlton, MA) also represented the Engineers in the hammer while freshman Victoria Carreiro (Westerly, RI) took part in the javelin and sophomore Katy Nippert (Salem, NH) participated in the long jump. Sophomore Arden Tanner (Ventura, CA), Gencorelli, freshman Katherine Pawlak (Westford, MA) and freshman Janelle Knight (Santa Barbara, CA) teamed up in the 4x100-meter relay.
Select student-athletes will get one more shot at qualifying for an invitation to the NCAA Division III Championships at the Williams and/or MIT Last Chance Meets on May 15 and 16, respectively.
