New Orleans, LA --- Five WPI track & field individuals and a relay were recognized as All-Region performers by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), as announced late Sunday afternoon. The scroll features the top five individuals and top three relays from each event.
The 4x100-meter relay consisting of Matt Adiletta (Bolton, MA), Nick Fleury (Hopkinton, NH), William Kopellas (Needham, MA) and Antoine Harris (Southington, CT) led New England with a school record 41.46 which was achieved this past week at the Great Lakes Final Qualifier. They narrowly missed representing the region at the NCAA Division III Track & Field Championships by .07 seconds while the other two teams were outside of the top 50.
Individually, Harris was second in the region by .06 seconds while Ryan Wittenberg (Bedford, NH) was fourth. Harris reset the school record in the 200-meter dash with a 21.49 at the Great Lakes Final Qualifier and will be the 19th seed at the upcoming national meet. Wittenberg achieved his WPI-best 800-meter run time of 1:51.62 at the NEICAAA Championships and enters the outdoor meet as the 11th seed.
The pole vault saw Carley Dykstra (Andover, NJ) tie for second and Bridget Wirtz (Branford, CT) follow in third as they cleared 12-4.75 at the Silfen Invitational and 12-2 at the NEICAAA Championships, respectively. Dykstra enters this week's action ranked 13th on the accepted entries list. Xandria Korn (Woodinville, WA) finished in a three-way tie for fifth in the high jump with her clearance of 5-5 at the Williams Invitational.
Harris, Wittenberg and Dykstra head to Geneva, OH for the 2019 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships that begin on Thursday.
