Knight and Packard Establish New School Records in Women's Track and Field Lidlifter

Norton, MA --- Friday afternoon at the Lyons Invitational held by Wheaton, the Women's Track and Field team set two new school records in the non-scoring event. The Engineers faced New Haven, Connecticut College, Wellesley and the host, Wheaton at the event. 

First to break a record was sophomore Janelle Knight (Goleta, CA) in the 300 meter with a time of 43.60, which earned her fifth-place in the event. Later senior Sydney Packard (Georgetown, MA) set a new school record in the 500 meter in 1:17.37 to earn her first-place. Lauren Kaija (Reading, VT) came in second place in a time of 1:22.35. The Engineers also took first and second in the 1000 meter with Grace Hadley (North Reading, MA) taking first in 3:04.02 and Charlotte Kokernak (Niskayuna, NY) earning second just over two seconds behind her teammate (3:06.79). Senior Ari Rozen (Carver, MA) took first in the 3000 meter with a time of 10:42.18.

Freshman Abby McLean (Holden, MA) made her career debut with an impressive first-place victory in the pole vault with a height of 2.85 meters while Allison Kloeckner (Shelburne, VT) logged third place finishs in the weight throw (12.04 meters) and shot put (10.37 meters).  Dreya Martin (Franklin, MA) placed highest for the Engineers in the high jump when she took fourth with 1.46 meters and in the long jump where she was seventh with 4.20 meters. 

To end the day, the Crimson and Gray took first and second in the 4x800 meter relay where the quartet of Kaija, Hadley, Kokernak and Packard finishing in 9:47.63 crushing the competition and the foursome of Mary Scrivanich (Old Tappen, NJ), Elise Deshusses (Chapel Hill, NC), Lora Dufresne (Sutton, MA) and Callie Schadt (Brewster, MA) right behind them in 10:13.04.

The Engineers are competing again on Saturday, January 25, at the Wheaton Invitational set to start at 11am.
