WORCESTER --- At the Wheaton Invitational Saturday, Women's Track and Field earned 11 top-five finishes in the non-scoring event. The Engineers faced Colby, Coast Guard, UMass Dartmouth, Tufts and the host Lyons during the meet.
The women started strong with a fourth-place finish in the 60-meter dash with Janelle Knight (Goleta, CA) placing in 8.08. Knight continued her success into the 200 meters where she took third in 26.56.
Sydney Packard (Georgetown, MA) claimed the fastest time in all of Division III with her victory in the 800 meters where she finished in 2:14.19. Teammate Grace Hadley (North Reading, MA) took fourth in 2:20.47 while Lauren Kaija (Reading, VT) finished fifth in 2:21.32. The Engineers then went on to claim two top-five spots in the 1000 meters with Callie Schadt (Brewster, MA) taking second (3:11.65) and Ari Rozen (Carver, MA) claiming third in 3:12.27.
In the mile, Keely Nistler (Vadnais Heights, MN) earned the only top-five spot with a fourth-place finish in a time of 5:28.32. A team of Packard, Kaija, Hadley and Lora Dufresne (Sutton, MA) placed third in the 4x400 relay in 4:10.44.
When it came to the field events, there were two top-five finishes. First was Allison Kloeckner (Shelburne, VT) who took second with a throw of 36 feet and 7.5 inches. She claimed the other top-five finish in the weighted throw where she took fourth with a distance of 39 feet and 8.75 inches.
The Engineers are back in action on Friday, January 31, for the first day of the Tufts Branwen Smith-King Invitational that starts at 4pm.
