Medford, MA --- The WPI men's track and field team claimed seven top-five finishes including a first place for junior Johann Bradley (Slidell, LA) in the pole vault as the Engineers placed fourth at the Tufts Branwen Smith-King Invitational.
WPI started the event with a second place finish for senior Alex Rus (Newton, MA) in the 55 M dash. Rus finished in a time of 51.11, just a hundredth of a second behind the event winner.
Junior Ben Steeves (Hollis, ME) followed that up with a second place finish in the 600M run with a time of 1:22.17, while sophomore Nate Meyer (Princeton, MA) placed fifth in the same event in a time of 1:24.07.
Sophomore Anthony Algieri (Nutley, NJ) and junior Mark Bray (Shrewsbury, MA) finished fourth and sixth in the 60M hurdles with times of 8.72 and 9.07.
The Engineers 4x400M relay team of Rus, sophomore Devin Coughlin (Newton, MA), Meyer and sophomore Owen Lally (Lebanon, CT) raced to a second place finish in a time of 3:28.69.
In the field events, Bradley earned the victory in the pole vault clearing 4.75M, while senior William Kopellas (Needham, MA) placed third in the long jump leaping 6.60M.
The Engineers are back in action next Saturday beginning at 10am at the Tufts Cupid Invitational.
